Video about research into ME/CFS and post-COVID in children

For most children, playing, going to school, or meeting up with friends is completely normal. For children with ME/CFS or post-COVID, this is often not the case.

At the Wilhelmina Children’s Hospital (WKZ), research is therefore being conducted into these conditions in children and adolescents. Children with ME/CFS or post-COVID often experience severe fatigue, pain, and problems with concentration and memory. Their symptoms can also worsen after even small amounts of exertion.

More knowledge about these diseases is important, as there is currently no treatment or cure. In this video, the research team explains what the study focuses on and why it is important to study children specifically. The researchers collect samples such as blood, saliva, and hair, and also carry out physical tests. In this way, they aim to better understand what is happening in the body and why symptoms differ from child to child.

Ultimately, the researchers want to better predict which children will recover, which may deteriorate, and what is needed for appropriate treatment in the future.
